AFISHA magazine names Perm “The RF City of the Year”.
In December 2008, one of the largest Russian entertainment magazines AFISHA published its annual List of 100 Triumphs and Disasters of the Year. The list is based on the most outstanding cultural and social events which took place in 2008. AFISHA experts selected Perm as the winner in one of the most prestigious categories - The RF City of the Year.
Looking back, in 2008 Perm hosted a number of memorable cultural events: KAMWA ethnofuturistic festival, The Heart of Parma cultural festival, Pilorama civil song festival, The Theaters of Russia in Perm theatrical festival, Jazz Fever music festival, Flaertiana international documentary festival.
Russian Povera contemporary art exhibition held at Perm River Station Hall in November 2008, without any doubt, became the biggest cultural event of the year. It featured works of simplest, "poor" materials by 36 world-renowned Russian artists. Among objects on display were unique pieces made of cardboard, old wood planks, rubber, iron, coal, ceramic tile, plastic, and even soap.
